The 2019 Cleve, our flagship wine, is back! An outstanding vintage of our flagship wine, the result of 2019 being one of the best years in Virginia in recent memory.

Experience this classic Tannat and Petit Verdot blend named for the historical estate of Charles Carter, one of the first recognized winemakers of Virginia.

Robust and full bodied, the 2019 Cleve is a stellar example of the best of what Virginia has to offer.  Petit Verdot contributes a solid acidity to this wine, providing structure in addition to the distinct earthy and savory flavors the variety is prized for.  Tannat, meanwhile, brings a fruitiness that presents itself most obviously on the nose and front palate of this wine.  Extended aging in oak is apparent on the nose and mid-palate, where vanilla notes can be found but do not mute the fruit.  The finish is very long, with the oak and seed tannins well integrated.  Pairs well with the richest foods such as steak, lamb, veal, sausage, and duck.  An excellent accompaniment to hearty cheeses.
