Philip Carter Winery

2020 Nomini Hall
Cabernet Franc

2020 Nomini Hall

The first fruit harvested from Strother Family Vineyards. Medium to full bodied fruit forward red with a distinct round, juicy texture.  The presence of new oak is most distinct on the nose, where toasted notes and vanilla can be found.  Lots of red fruit flavors like sweet cherry, strawberry, and watermelon dominate the front and mid palates.  Well integrated oak tannins give the wine a light, lingering finish.   A beautiful deep ruby color.  This is an extremely versatile wine in terms of food pairing – its tannin structure and oak backbone give it enough body to stand up to red meat, and it pairs excellently with lamb.  Being a fruit forward red with a solid acidity, it also pairs extremely well light lighter dishes, particularly tomato and vegetable based dishes and veal, duck, and pork.

The first fruit was harvested from Strother Family Vineyards.
Production Notes
255 cases bottled. The grapes were crushed and destemmed, then fermented in bins. A one week extended maceration took place after fermentation to extract more tannin and structure from the skins.
Winemaker Notes
The wine was then aged 9 months in 50% neutral French oak and 50% new large format (500 liter) French oak barrels. The large barrels allow for less wine to be in contact with the wood than a traditional 225 liter barrel, giving less impact from the new French Oak.
Food Pairing Notes
This is an extremely versatile wine in terms of food pairing – its tannin structure and oak backbone give it enough body to stand up to red meat, and it pairs excellently with lamb.
