Philip Carter Winery

2020 Cleve

2020 Cleve

Experience this classic Tannat and Petit Verdot blend named for the historical estate of Charles Carter, one of the first recognized winemakers of Virginia.

50% Tannat and 50% Petit Verdot, aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. 25% new French Oak, and 75% used French Oak. A very full-bodied red, this wine is big, bold, & rich. In our flagship blend, Tannat brings lots of jammy red fruit flavors such as blackberry, raspberry, & cassis. Petit Verdot lends more of a savory, earthy characteristic, plus a robust acidity which increases aging potential. Extremely well-integrated Oak Flavors of baking spices, plus a slight vanilla note which extends the mid-palate. An excellent accompaniment to the most robust cuisine such as steak, prime rib, and lamb.  Stronger cheeses like blue, stilton, & brie will pair nicely as well.

Winemaker Notes
The two varietals used here compliment each other extremely well, as Petit Verdot provides more savory characteristics and strong acidity, while Tannat contributes more fruit notes.
Food Pairing Notes
An excellent accompaniment to the most robust cuisine such as steak, prime rib, and lamb. Stronger cheeses like blue, stilton, & brie will pair nicely as well.
Other Notes
This wine will age well for 10-15 years in bottle, with its prime drinking window being from 2025-2030.

Absolutely loved this wine! One of my favorites from Philip Carter and perhaps one of my all-time favorite reds. Highly recommend.
